If you work in libraries, you probably love your job. That's why you're still there, toiling away, dishing up our product to a grateful public. And if you work in systems, like me, you know that your role is an essential part of it all. And that's cool, it makes you feel good.
Library systems have been around for a long time, but with the rise of the web and the online catalogue the LMS (that's Library Management System ) has become a much higher profile part of what we do. Remember the card catalogue? I do. Then we went to computers and dumb terminals and then PCs and then the web catalogue and dial up gave way to broadband, then wireless and now it's web 2.0
Lots of interesting, interactive widgets to plug in to somewhere and network with someone and download and upload and share and it's all out there 24 7 .... It will be great to start to integrate this into our library system, and to watch over time what sort of takeup we get.
Ok got to go, back soon.
